The Soapbox Archives:
That makes me think about the fact that I've been sending out my email newsletter for 22 years, a personal project that won't go away. The website's been around for less than that, only about 18 years. I'm getting old.
A lot of people condemned this event as "insensitive" to the victims of 9/11.
I have one thing to say to all those people:
Terrorists don't take time off.Terrorists are certainly not going to be sympathetic and stand down during American holidays and important dates. The Boston Marathon bombing took place on Patriot's Day when we celebrate the first battles that led to the creation of this country. This was also a day when a large number of Bostonians are focused on the Boston Marathon, an event has a lot of international attention and participation. And we know the terrorists' real target was the July 4th celebration where up to a quarter million people converge on the Esplanade every year.
Ask the people of Israel about the 1973 Yom Kippur War when a coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria attacked Israel on the holy (holiest?) day in Judaism.
Let's face it: the bad guys don't care if they come across as "insensitive" and we have to be ready for it.
I'm glad our first responders don't take time off; I'm glad they don't let their guard down; I'm glad they spend their time protecting us. The next time you see a fireman, a police officer, a soldier, or a doctor or nurse going to work, they're not just going to collect a paycheck. They're going to the front lines and they're putting themselves between us and a lot of bad people.
As far as I'm concerned, the Logan Airport can practice their drills any day of the year. What's the point of any fire drill? So we can be ready. All the time. There is no downtime. To take a break on security on the anniversary of 9/11 is to be truly insensitive to the victims of that tragic day.

Forget waterboarding. The CIA should check this out.
I think that everyone should consider some of the ideas that Josh Whedon brings up. On the other hand, many of the current issues on equality for women will probably go away as many of the old politicians die out over the next 5-10 years and their old ideas disappear from the scene.
