GYROKINESIS®
GYROKINESIS®, formally called “yoga for dancers”, is a unique system of movement that gently works the joints and muscles of the body through rhythmic, undulating and oppositional movements that embrace the key principles also found in yoga, dance, swimming, tai chi and yoga. This class will increase strength and range of motion and challenge you to move with more fluidity, relaxation, and power.

Thursdays, March 6-April 10, 2008, from noon to 1:30 pm. The cost is $72. Please register in advance and bring your mat.
Denise Sklar is a certified instructor in both GYROTONIC and GYROKINESIS®. She is drawn to this method of bodywork because of its intelligent and organic connection to movement. She is also a modern dancer who has trained professionally, performed and taught extensively in New York City, on the North Shore, and in the Boston area. An original member of Spencer Colton, she has also performed with numerous companies and choreographers. She was a guest artist and resident choreographer for the North Shore Civic Ballet and remains on the faculty at MSB. A graduate of New York University, Denise currently teaches private sessions on the Gyrotonic Tower in Hamilton, and Gyrokinesis and dance at MSB and Boston Conservatory Summer Dance.

Let's Dance Together
The "Lets Dance Together" classes are designed to develop coordination, stimulate imagination, and prepare children for later dance or sports activities, through interactive dance experiences involving both parent and child. Music and rhythms are a part of each class. Parents will learn a series for enjoyable activities which they can later repeat at home with their children.

Modern Dance Fundamentals
with Ivan Korn on Saturdays from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. Tuition is $110 for a 10-week series, $15 per single class. * Note: Ages 13 thru adult, must have dance experience.

Repertory Class Series
Taught by Mary Lee Karlins on Tuesdays at 6:30 pm, and by Ivan Korn on Saturdays at 2:00 pm

The Repertory Class teaches the students the skills of performing. The dancers in this class will learn a dance work choreographed by the instructor Mary Lee Karlins on Tuesdays or by Ivan Korn on Saturdays. In the final class session, the students will give an informal performance of the work they have learned.

This class is open to any dancer with experience who is enrolled at the Marblehead Scholl of Ballet in two or more technique classes per week and attends these classes regularly. The students taking the Saturday repertory class must enroll in Ivan’s technique class, Saturdays at 12:30 PM.

In addition, the repertory students are expected to arrive early at the repertory class, to warm up and are also expected to review previously learned material prior to each class. There will be 10 repertory classes and one final rehearsal before the performance. The workshop performance will be on December 2, 2007. The time and location will be announced. Tuition for one repertory class is $160, $286 for both.

Denise Sklar, former MSB student, professional dancer, currently on staff at MSB and Boston Conservatory:

"As a young aspiring dancer, or the professional returning home, MSB is a school and a home always there to provide knowledge, challenges, opportunities and inspiration."

Floor-Barre
Floor barre is a method used by many dancers to enhance their technique, increase their strength and flexibility, or recuperate from injuries. The class is conducted with the participant in various positions on the floor. The activities integrate elements of dance technique, alignment principles and correct muscle use. The class decreases the stress on the body by using the floor for the support while performing the dance movements. The floor also provides the feedback on alignment. The information acquired in this class has a direct connection to dance technique and can enhance performance and prevent injuries. Floor barre will be followed by a traditional ballet barre incorporating some of these techniques. The class is suitable for dancers of all levels and may be especially beneficial for those with alignment problems or injuries.
