About the dance classes
Beginning courses are for those who have never studied the particular style or dance(s) indicated. The levels progress after the beginning course by number (e.g., 2, 3, 4) and then follow with Intermediate and Advanced levels in the American Style. In the International Style, the progression is Beginning, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Open, and students will take this same class for a year or more to complete the syllabus and other skills.
Courses concentrate on one, two or several dances over the semester. Those dances are listed after the course name. For example, a swing class will concentrate on Swing only; a Ballroom/Social class will cover Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Rumba, Cha Cha, and Swing. Beginning Ballroom Fundamentals and Advanced Movement classes work on dance skils versus a step orientation.
Technique classes are geared towards "How to" rather than on learning new steps. Dance Technique will concentrate on proper execution of basic fundamentals for both smooth and latin dances. This popular class includes drills and exercises you can do on your own without a partner to improve your dancing skills.
Most students begin with the Wedding Survival Course, beginning Smooth or Latin courses and progress to more advanced classes and then the International Style.
